Accommodation levels in Rio de Janeiro are anticipated to be at full occupancy during the conference. While it is not the responsibility of the United Nations to procure accommodation for the media, it should be noted that the Brazilian national organizing committee for Rio+20 has committed to blocking a minimum of 500 hotel rooms in Rio de Janeiro for media covering the conference. Major Groups Receive Financial Support
The United Nation?s Department of Economic and Social (DESA) was awarded a ?350,000 grant by the European Commission for supporting Major Groups and global civil society preparation and engagement for Rio 2012.

The grant will ensure representative, informed, enhanced and broadened participation of civil society, including the private sector, in the Rio 2012 preparatory process and the Conference itself.
