Environmental Fiscal Reforms can raise revenues for poverty alleviation and pro-poor investment, contribute to deficit reduction, shift the tax burden away from labour and income tax, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, create jobs, stimulate innovation, incentivise a shift towards renewable energy and enhance energy efficiency. They are a prerequisite for providing the framework for a green economy and can make a key contribution to sustainable development.
