ICSU-UNESCO Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Science and Technology Workshop
ICSU and UNESCO organised a Regional Science and Technology Workshop for Latin America and the Caribbean prior to the intergovernmental Rio+20 Regional Preparatory Meeting for the region. Natural scientists, social scientists and engineers from across the region participated, along with high level policy-makers and representatives of other Major Groups. This gave scientists and engineers the opportunity to prepare joint positions and concerted inputs for the regional preparatory processes, and to discuss their views with policy-makers and other key actors. In this way, region-specific scientific knowledge, issues and concerns will be integrated into the Rio+20 conference.
This is one of four regional workshops organised by ICSU and UNESCO, for Asia Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, and Europe. These workshops are organised in cooperation with the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), the International Social Science Council (ISSC) and other regional stakeholders.
