Organizing partners

The EMG Secretariat in collaboration with UNEP, UNDP and UNDESA

The Environment Management Group will present the findings of its report ?Working towards a balanced and inclusive green economy: A UN system-wide perspective" which was prepared to contribute to the Rio+20 Conference. The report prepared by 40 UN entities provides a picture on the UN system wide perspectives on the green economy and how the UN system could coherently support countries in transitioning to a green economy. The report is expected to facilitate a common understanding of the green economy approach and the measures required for the transition.

Detailed programme

The EMG green economy report provides a focused and forward-looking inter-agency assessment on how the United Nations system and Bretton Woods institutions could more coherently support and assist countries in making the transition to a green economy, and to work on joint and consistent messaging on appropriate measures needed to support the transition. The report supports member states deliberations on the agenda of the Rio+20 on green economy. The focus of the event will be on the findings of the report and elaboration of the social, economic and environmental aspects of green economy in the context of sustainable development. The UN agencies will provide their perspectives and experiences on their respective experiences and initiatives that would support transition into a green economy for sustainable development.
