21 Mar 2012 - 21 Mar 2012
6:15 PM - 7:45 PM

Conference room 7, United Nations, New York

The Women's Major Group, together with UN WOMEN, Brazil and Switzerland invite to this Gender and SDG Side Event during Rio+20 informal informals in New York:

Sustainable Development Goals and MDG post 2015: the Gender Dimension
Date & Time: 21 March 2012, 6:15 - 7:45 PM
Venue: UN New York (New Lawn Building, Conference room 7)

Please join us in this dialogue between member states, civil society and UN agencies to look at gender equality and women?s rights in the development agenda after 2015.

How will Rio+20 contribute to that discussion? Are the proposed Sustainable Development Goals useful in achieving the interlinked goals of gender, economic and ecological justice? What lessons can we draw from the experience in implementing the MDGs? The dialogue will explore di erent views on the limitations and possibilities of such indicators and goals in measuring and addressing gender and other disparities.

It is hoped that participants will create a informal working group of government representatives, UN and civil society representatives to build on this dialogue and develop proposals leading up to Rio+20 and into the post 2015 process.

Please indicate your country?s interest to contribute to the dialogue before March 15.

Anna Falth, UN Women

Sascha Gabizon, WECF International

On behalf of the co-organisers: UN Women, the Governments of Switzerland and Brazil, and the Women?s Major Group represented by APWLD, DAWN, WECF and WEDO
