Thematic Social Forum and Rio+20
The Thematic Social Forum, which began yesterday in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and will last until the 29th January, will focus today at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio +20.

Among the debates held on about the theme are: How to influence the process and the themes of Rio +20; Seminar Toward Rio +20; Work and Sustainable Development; Higher Education Institutions - Environmental Management and Rio +20; Family Farming: Safety Food and Sovereignty, Sustainability in the Framework of Rio +20, Towards the People?s Summit - Rio +20: A new historical period.

The approach on the Conference in the Forum is mainly because of the People?s Summit for Sustainable Development, a side event at Rio +20 that will give voice to the third sector and will bring together leaders and movements of civil society in order to push for the progress of the event.

In response to this programming about Rio +20, Thomas Stelzer, Assistant Secretary-General of the Department of Economic Affairs (UN DESA), the department responsible for Rio+20, will come on the 28th January to the Thematic Social Forum. For the moment, his schedule ? not yet confirmed ? consists of a press conference with the Mayor of Porto Alegre (Josť Fortunati), interviews and a meeting with the Forum?s organizers.
