The vision of the Major Group for Children and Youth is the advanced participation of young people at all levels; locally, nationally, regionally and internationally, in the protection of the environment and the promotion of economic and social development.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) for creating this wonderful opportunity for two active young people under the age of thirty from Africa to participate in negotiations.

We are also working to promote the official youth delegates programme. You can find out more here:

Currently, too few member states have a youth delegate for Rio+20. Switzerland recently announced one. Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany are some of the few countries that have recurringly supported young people's involvement as part of their official delegations in the CSD processes....we hope to see more young people included for Rio+20!

If you are a member state or organisation and you are interested in funding youth participation or have a youth delegate...Please contact Saba ( or the finance working group on We would be happy to hear from you!
