Accommodation levels in Rio de Janeiro are anticipated to be at full occupancy during the conference. While it is not the responsibility of the United Nations to procure accommodation for the media, it should be noted that the Brazilian national organizing committee for Rio+20 has committed to blocking a minimum of 500 hotel rooms in Rio de Janeiro for media covering the conference. Higher Education Sustainability Initiative Goes Live!
University leaders are being invited to play a key role in the lead up to Rio+20. Five United Nations entities with higher education networks are challenging university presidents to commit to sustainability programmes. Possible measures include teaching sustainability as part of the core curriculum, greening of university campuses, fostering and sharing sustainability science and research, and helping to green the communities in which they reside.
