Accommodation levels in Rio de Janeiro are anticipated to be at full occupancy during the conference. While it is not the responsibility of the United Nations to procure accommodation for the media, it should be noted that the Brazilian national organizing committee for Rio+20 has committed to blocking a minimum of 500 hotel rooms in Rio de Janeiro for media covering the conference. CSW Stresses Importance of Indigenous Women to food security and sustainable development
In a press release dated 9 March, the Commission on the Status of Women ?stressed the importance of recognizing the distinct and crucial contribution of indigenous women and their knowledge, and their vital roles in diverse local economies to poverty eradication, food security and sustainable development (L.6).?

In its 56th Session, ?(t)he Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)...sent a strong message to ensure that gender equality was woven tightly into a blanket of initiatives spanning armed conflict to natural disaster assistance, as it approved seven draft texts, one by recorded vote, to be sent to the Economic and Social Council for adoption.?

The 56th Session was held from 27 February to 9 March 2012 at the UN Headquarters in New York.
