11:00 to 12:00: Eye On Earth: Eye on Biodiversity
20 Jun 2012 - 20 Jun 2012
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Athletes Park, UNEP Pavilion

This Special Initiative focuses on the incentives required to motivate people to share biodiversity data and information. It is accepted by the Eye on Earth Community that there is a substantial amount of information and data which could help address current biodiversity and ecosystem challenges, however there is much collected which is not shared, and much shared which is not connected and visible.

The cost of sharing is also acknowledged and the challenge remains to provide an infrastructure where the benefits from sharing are simple, immediate and self-evident.

This side event will discuss how data and information can be used to manage biodiversity and in particular:
- The need for accurate data and information as a basis for sustainable policy decision making and EAD's commitment to the SI
- Regional achievements in terms of the Arab Region Atlas
- Importance on data and information at global, national and local levels
- How data and information can make a difference
- Policy implementation in action
