10 Mar 2011 - 10 Mar 2011
4:15 PM - 6:00 PM

Brussels, Belgium. Eurostat

The Eurostat conference on "Statistics for policymaking: Europe 2020" focuses on the role of statistics in policymaking, using the Europe 2020 strategy as a case in point.

Like the whole Conference, the session on "Sustainable growth: indicators for green growth" should
aim to clarify the issue of how to shape statistics underpinning policy making. At European level, a
presentation of the policy needs and of their possible evolution in the next 5 to 10 years will be given.
Europe 2020 will be taken as a case, but requirements for indicators arising from other policy
domains, and in particular from the next Environment Action Programme after 2012, will be
addressed as well. Information on the trade-off between the diverse components of statistical quality

At national level, policy requirements are also to be considered. Their presentation will be completed
by some insights in national experiences in using indicators for the definition, the implementation, the
monitoring and the evaluation of policies. In the environmental domain, information on the way crossborder
pressures and constraints are tackled will be addressed.
