Expert Group Meeting on ?Supporting National Governments in the Transition to a Low-Carbon Development Pathway
19 May 2011 - 20 May 2011
New York City (UNHQ)
The Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) convened an expert group meeting to discuss modelling approaches for low-carbon development. The outputs from the meeting, which took place from 19 to 20 May 2011, will feed into a project that is designed to strengthen countries? technical capacity to analyse and evaluate policy options available to achieve nationally-defined green growth/low-carbon objectives. A number of factors impede low-carbon development, including barriers to entry for clean energy, inadequate analysis of low-carbon development policy options and lack of communication to policymakers of policy options. The project aims to address these challenges through:(i) strengthening local modelling capabilities to address an expanded range of nationally-defined low-carbon policy options; and (ii) enhancing policymakers? access to and understanding of rigorous quantitative analysis for national policy making relating to green growth/low-carbon economy.
