UCLG World Council
10 Dec 2011 - 11 Dec 2011Welcome message of the Mayor of Florence, Mr. Matteo Renzi
On behalf of the City Administration and of all my fellow citizens I am glad to welcome you to Florence, on the occasion of the World Council and Executive Bureau Meetings of the United Cities and Local Governments, which will take place from 9 to 11 December 2011.
Today Florence has a reputation as a major economic centre and is home to many specialized institutes and international cultural centres: academies, art schools, scientific institutes and foreign universities, all contribute to the City's intense and dynamic activities.
I would like to convey to you my hopes that this meeting focusing on such important issues can represent a further step for the international cooperation between cities and their associations, to facilitate programmes, networks and partnerships in order to promote the capacity of local governments to address the challenges posed by the contemporary world.
Let me wish you a pleasant and fruitful stay in my beautiful and vibrant City and, at the same time, I hope you will have the opportunity to enjoy the many cultural attractions and events that Florence offers in this particular time of the year.
Looking forward to welcoming you personally to Florence,
