Increase in the share of renewable energy sources (excluding large hydropower stations) to 4.5 percent of the total electricity produced and consumed
Government adopted Resolution No. 1-r of 8 January 2009 on the Main Directions for the State Policy to Improve the Energy Efficiency of the Electricity Sector on the Basis of Renewable Energy Sources for the Period up to 2020. In accordance with this Resolution, 4.5 percent of the total electricity produced and consumed in 2020 should be generated from renewable energy sources (excluding large hydropower stations). In 2009 such a level was less than 1 percent. According to experts estimations reaching the target of 4.5 percent would displace more than 36 million tons of CO2/per year.
