SUSTAINABLE PUBLIC PROCUREMENT – ADDING VALUE TO A GREEN ECONOMY
The Swedish Environmental Management Council and UNOPS present their experiences on sustainable procurement
Public procurement constitute 16-20% of GDP in Europe. This enormous amount of public sector money can through informed decisions move the market into a more sustainable direction.
Sustainable procurement can stimulate innovation and turn the public sector into a driving force in developing a green economy. Through long term solutions, such as energy efficiency measures, the public sector can’t only decrease environmental impact through green public procurement but also lower its total costs substantially. Sustainable procurement is an instrument for the local market which can have great effects globally if managed in an appropriate way.
Sweden is one of the leading countries on Sustainable public procurement and will present its successful concept.
UNOPs Executive director Jan Mattsson will present their experience on sustainable procurement which include collaboration with UNEP to develop training material and conducting training on sustainable procurement, and field projects in several countries
Speakers:
Annie Stålberg, Head of energy issues, The Swedish Environmental Management Council (SEMCo)
Jan Mattsson, Executive director, The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS)
The presentation will take place at the common space Conference Room CNO 4 at Athletes' Park the 21st of June at 12.00-12.40, Address: Salvador Allende Avenue, s/nº - Barra da Tijuca - Rio de Janeiro - RJ – Brasil.
